Who is the Customer?

Established in 1965, Barnes & Noble College is the leading operator of campus bookstores for top academic institutions in the USA. The company provides retail and academic solutions, research and insights to campus stores that serve 6 Million+ Students, Parents,  Alumni, Fans & Faculty.  Today, they have expanded to partner with more than 1,400 college, university and K-12 bookstores nationwide to create retail and learning experiences that support faculty, engage students and build alumni loyalty.

What was the business problem?

Following the implementation of Oracle Retail applications, BNC began to accumulate large amounts of valuable inventory and sales data. However, their legacy BI tools weren't sufficient to leverage new volumes of data to drive business outcomes.

What Oracle Retail Solutions have we implemented?

With a global virtual team (USA, Europe and India), working remotely, OLR has implemented Oracle Retail Insights Cloud Services with all the key features, including Customer and Merchandising Insights, Science Platform and Oracle Retail Home.

What extra value did OLR add to the project?

In addition to the standard implementation processes, legacy data had to be extracted into flat files, as well as mapped, analysed, and prepared for data conversion at Barnes & Noble College. Since the Retail Insights Service is cloud-based while BNC is keeping MOM modules on-prem, customisation was required for adapting the extraction process.

Moreover, OLR developed custom reports based on the business requirements with very little or no performance impact, allowing BNC to reap the benefits of the solution without having to change existing processes that are working well.

What was the outcome?

  • 100% first time implementation success

Barnes & Noble College was one of the first large retailers to implement Oracle Retail Insights Cloud Service Suite. OLR has helped them to achieve a 100% first-time success rate for the implementation, building the integration to interface with the retail applications that BNC was already using to speed up internal user adoption and take advantage of the rapid value of the solution.

  • Leveraging Data & Insights
Retail Insights has provided Barnes & Noble College with a platform to house the data and provide the analytics tools that were needed to deliver product offerings and promotions tailored to individual school and campus communities, driving sales and customer satisfaction.

  • 24/7 Application Managed Service Support
Following the implementation, OLR has seamlessly transitioned BNC into AMS 24/7 support, providing stability and onboarding all new Oracle Retail Insights (Cloud) features and functionality, the moment they are released while their MOM modules continue to stay on On-Prem.

“As one of the first large retail organizations to implement Retail Insights, there were a few hurdles to overcome in the early days of the rollout. However, OLR was able to leverage their partnership with Oracle to engage their teams and product experts and provide the solutions that were needed for a successful deployment.”
