Case Study
Oracle Retail goes live on time and under budget for dressbarn
dressbarn is a leading North American specialty retailer that offers quality career and casual fashion apparel. In early 2006, dressbarn selected the Oracle® Retail application suite as the foundation for a new technology infrastructure platform to support its strong growth and expansion of its brand.
In order to meet an aggressive timeline and budget to implement the new system, dressbarn chose OLR as its solution implementation partner.
Company Overview:

Challenge:
Oracle Retail quickly with minimal business disruption
dressbarn’s deployment project commenced in April 2006 when it engaged OLR as its solution partner. The scheduled go-live date of July 2007 was an achievable but challenging deadline for a project that included merchandising, pricing and data warehousing systems.
dressbarn’s Oracle Retail implementation comprised the Retail Merchandising System (RMS); Retail Price Management; Retail Data Warehouse v12; and Retail Extract Transform and Load (RETL) tool. The project plan called for a “vanilla” implementation that would not modify the base Oracle Retail solution, so dressbarn could take advantage of product upgrades in the future.
This strategy was rewarded halfway through the project when dressbarn elected to implement v12 of the Oracle Retail application suite instead of v11, as originally planned. By eliminating base code modifications, dressbarn was able to change gears quickly and make the switch to V12 without significant impact to the project plan.
The technology platform and upgrade path of V12 were the primary reasons for the switch.

Solution:
Experienced deployment team minimized costs and maximized speed
OLR established a project team that comprised both dressbarn business stakeholders and OLR specialists working as a single group. OLR made a significant investment in the analysis phase to define in detail the required solution before commencing integration and data conversion.
As part of its commitment to a “vanilla” deployment, the OLR-led project team determined that, where there was no major operational disruption it was preferable to change a business process rather than modify the Oracle Retail system. This allowed dressbarn to utilize the best-of-breed processes embedded within the Oracle Retail applications.
Development work for the Oracle Retail integration was performed offshore by OLR's Australian office. As well as minimizing costs, this separation of resources maximized productivity by undertaking development activities offshore during “downtime” in the US.
After the successful go live, dressbarn moved from having an onsite team to engaging OLR Assistsm support services to provide 24/7 assistance using resources from OLR offices around the world.
